Stacy Hanson and his wife, Colleen, found their perfect home. They had just started adding their personal touches. Then, February 12, 2007, their lives changed forever. A gunman walked into a local mall, randomly killing five people and injuring four others. Stacy was there to pick up a valentine card when he was shot multiple times.

He's the only survivor of the Trolley Square shooting still in the hospital, but 'going home' for Stacy Hanson won't be easy. Now in a wheelchair, getting around his own house will be almost impossible. Faced with being forced to sell their family dream home, ABC 4 stepped in.

All of us at ABC 4 want to give a BIG "thank you" to the volunteers, friends, family and neighbors who made our Hanson Home Makeover such a rewarding community project. You can still see ABC 4 News Anchor Ross Becker's coverage, from demolition to the touching homecoming, by clicking on the video links at the bottom of this page.

ABC 4 is proud to have teamed up with Utah Home Makeover to make a difference for Trolley Square shooting survivor Stacy Hanson and his family. Once Stacy leaves the hospital, he will be confined to a wheelchair, but the home that had once been the Hanson's dream home was not wheelchair friendly, making Stacy's homecoming a difficult one.

Utah Home Makeover is an organization with the goal to create opportunities to gift home makeovers to needy families in Utah. This teamwork has encouraged many businesses to get involved. You'll get to see what they did for this huge renovation to accommodate Stacy's needs and see the surprises for the whole family!

The Hanson Family were greeted by this inspirational message painted on their wall by Lisa Barker: "May our home know Joy...Each room hold Laughter... Every window open to great Possibilities."
