– BEST OF STATE WINNER IN SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY FOR 2005

Salt Lake City – The 2005 Best of State award for COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE STORES was presented to PC Laptops on Saturday, June 18, at a gala awards banquet held at the Salt Palace Convention Center Grand Ballroom. PC Laptops has been selected because of Its overall excellence and achievement, innovation, and contribution to the community.

Best of State gives recognition yearly to outstanding individuals, organizations, and businesses in Utah. Award winners have demonstrated achievement and excellence in their fields of endeavor and have produced superior results and outcomes. Evidence of this achievement may include – but is not limited to – recognition from peers, development of superior products and growth and expansion of their enterprise. Best of State seeks out these individuals, organizations and businesses that have shown innovation or creativity in approach, technique, method or processes.

Almost 200 judges from every part of Utah participated in evaluating nominees this year. All judging is done independently by secret ballot for the Best of State awards. Judges are recommended by mayors, chambers of commerce, arts councils, and businesses throughout the state and are carefully overseen by the certified accounting firm of Gilbert & Stewart, who tabulates the ballots.

Sharlene Hawkes, former ESPN sportscaster and former Miss America , and chair of the advisory board for Best of State, said, “We've uniquely designed the judging process to be as objective as possible. Not only do the judges never meet together, they do not know who the other members of their panel are, so there is no opportunity to campaign or lobby for a particular applicant.”
