The Utah100 Program was first conceived by the MountainWest Venture Group in 1993 as Utah' only business growth recognition program. This premier award identifies and recognized Utah's top 100 fastest growing companies, 15 revenue growth companies, and 15 "Emerging Elite" companies each year.

John M. Knab, a Mountain West Venture Group director and founder of the Utah100 Program has stated, "The companies of the Utah100 show the entrepreneurial spirit that is alive in a unlimited number of industries. The Utah 100 illustrates that people can succeed in any industry in Utah if they are prepared to follow their vision, put the right resources together, and make the sacrifices that are required to achieve economic success."

During this eight-year span, the Utah100 has become one of the most important business events held in the state each year. More than 11,000 Utah firms were invited to participate in this year's program, with eligibility limited to corporations or partnerships with headquarters in Utah and with five full years of operations prior to 2002. Companies were ranked by the MWVG based on percentage sales growth during a five-year period from 1997-2001. To be eligible, companies had to be Utah-based U.S. organizations with a minimum of $50,000 in sales in 1997 and sustain a nearly 200 percent growth rate for the past five years.

David L. Polis in the Desert News writes, "As it turns out, the average annual growth-rate of the top 100 companies was 245 percent over the past five years. Amazingly, the top five winners had an average growth rate of 5,500 percent and the top 10 winners had an average growth rate of 2,665 percent."

Orem-based Wolf is an electronics manufacturing services company available on a contracted basis. Wolf hit $11 million in sales in 2001 and is projecting revenues upwards of $15 million.
